2 Timothy 1:6

The Purpose of this talk is to stir up the gift of God in us, just like Paul told Timothy in the passage. The 2 keywords on the topic are:

  • Engage: To Participate or become involved in
  • Talent: Natural Aptitude or skill (or ability, or tendency, or Affinity)

These talents can be broadly classified into Physical & Spiritual Gifts (or Talents). Physical talents can include singing, talking, writing, acting, drawing, etc. Spiritual gifts, as in seen in I Cor 12: 4 -11 includes Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge, Faith, Healing, Working of Miracles, Prophecy, Discerning of spirits, Diverse kinds of tongues and Interpretation of tongues.

What does God expect from us as children of God and stewards in his vineyard?

Look first at the parable of the talents. Matthew 25:14-29

  1. The master gave them Talents (Money, or seeds) according to their individual abilities (Gifts or Talent)
  2. The first two servants got 100% percent profits from their endeavors and were given the exact same compliment and reward
  3. The 3rd servant would have received the same compliment and reward as the others if only he used (Engaged) his Talent.

….We are the light of the world……No one lights the candle and hides it…

First, you need to know your talents before you can engage them. How would you do that?

  1. Discover it – Physical gifts (ask yourself, What am I good at?)
  2. Ask – Spiritual Gifts . 1 Corinthians 12: 31; “….Covet earnestly the best gifts…”

Now, that you know your talents, what are the refining Ingredients in engaging our Talent Quotient
